Quorum’s events programme shapes up for 2014

Newcastle-based Quorum Business Park is set to kickstart the year with a healthy schedule of events for its 5,000 on-site staff to enjoy over the coming months.

The events programme for 2014 gets fully underway with the launch of the new bike hub on 12 February. Sustrans and M-Steel Cycles will host the hub on the second Wednesday of every month to promote cycling to employees on the park that live in the nearby area.

The hub, which will be situated on Quorum’s retail parade, will provide a great source of information and advice for those who are keen to start cycling to work and free bike services will be offered three times a year to all cyclist commuters on the park.

Quorum Business Park events co-ordinator Laura Barber said: “We’re really excited about the new bike hub and are positive that it’s going to be a really popular addition to our events line-up. We’ve worked really hard to make it an appealing place to visit, with a vintage vibe decor, a sofa area to relax and read books on the sport, and clothing gear on sale.

“Encouraging more park employees to cycle to work is a sustainable objective high on our agenda so we’ve developed a buddy service, which will be available to arrange at the hub, where an experienced cyclist will recommend the safest routes and accompany them on their way to and from work until they feel confident enough to continue without support.”

The following month will see Quorum mark the fourth birthday of its Q-card, which offers special rewards and discounts to cardholders on the park. A week-long promotion from 24 March will be celebrated by new offer announcements and a Q-card partner exhibition will be held on 26 March, hosting a variety of businesses.

Local business Dave’s The Gentleman’s Barbers will be offering wet towel shaves at its pop-up barber shop and Nuffield Health Gym are bringing a body-analyser along on the day to give a precise body fat indicator for those curious about their health.

Laura continued: “We’re looking forward to the opening of the park’s brand new outdoor gym facility in spring, and so to get everyone warmed up our boot camp leader Adam Hitchings will be running a workshop at the Q-card exhibition to show how to make the most of the equipment. Employees can also get involved in a demonstration by Solo Martial Arts to make sure they’re fighting fit!”

DFDS Seaways has donated a star prize of two Amsterdam cruise tickets for the Q-card birthday raffle, where match and race day tickets for Durham County Cricket Club, Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club and Newcastle Racecourse will be up for grabs. Discounted Newcastle Falcons game tickets will also be available and Newcastle Racecourse will be promoting its race meetings and events ahead of the busy season.

Other exhibits will include South Shields’ Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, Matfen Hall Hotel and Newcastle-based wedding photographers, Footprint Photographic – alongside local travel providers and an array of healthy lunch options.

In the meanwhile, social enterprise Food Nation will be on the park on the first Friday of every month, each time serving up a different world cuisine. Laura concluded: “It’s a pleasure to work with Food Nation as its culture is undoubtedly in line with Quorum’s sustainable strategy. They produce great-tasting, nutritious food and all of its profits are invested back into their work in the community.

“We’ve got a lot to look forward to over the next few months and we’re confident that the 5,000 staff on the park will take advantage of what’s on offer.”
