Other notable members include HRH Prince Charles, Sir Edmund Hillary, Kevin McCloud and Tim Smith, founder of the Eden Project.

Michael Newey, RICS President, who presented George with his honorary membership, said: “There can be few people in the UK who as recognisable and influential as George when it comes to architecture and the built environment. George is passionate about the way architecture can transform everyday lives and aims to make architecture both popular and accessible.

“This passion and focus aligns so closely with the aims and goals of RICS, which looks to promote the very best practices in land, property and construction. George is one of the most highly sought-after individuals in our profession, and we hope he will continue to be an ambassador for RICS.”

George Clarke HonRICS said: “To say I am honoured to be recognised by RICS is an understatement. I’m overwhelmed! As anyone who watches my TV programmes will know, I am dedicated to and passionate about, our nation’s architectural heritage.

“I am before a TV personality however, an architect, and to be awarded this accolade by such a distinguished group of professionals is an undoubted career highlight. I hope to work along with RICS for many years to come championing architecture, design and of course my passion: preserving homes which still have lives to live.”
