Iconic Cheshire building undergoes £4m transformation
A Cheshire business park has unveiled plans for the £4.7 million transformation of the iconic Thomson House.
The multi-million pound investment heralds a new era of improvements and new constructions at MEPC Birchwood Park in Birchwood, Warrington, and will catapult Thomson House, one of the most well-known buildings in the area, into the 21st century.
The project, designed by BDP and Fuse, represents the biggest investment by MEPC across its portfolio of UK-wide business parks and will bring city centre buzz and work style to Birchwood.
The extensive refurbishment includes the complete recladding of the building to create the stunning first impression this landmark building deserves. Interior spaces will be transformed into a range of modern offices and inspirational collaboration spaces, perfectly designed to meet the demands of today’s most dynamic companies.
The substantial redevelopment works will also include a new approach to the building with contemporary landscaping, a dedicated business hub, a new reception and an outdoor all-weather patio area.
The finished building will provide a mix of flexible, high quality refurbished office space from 800 to 18,000 sq ft, available on short- or long-term agreements.
The new reception, business hub and first floor office space will all be completed by spring 2014. Full completion is expected by June 2014. With one occupier already at the legal stage of talks to take over the penthouse floor, demand is expected to be high.
Andrew Cowell, commercial director of Birchwood Park, said: “Exciting things are happening at Birchwood Park. MEPC’s commitment to the Birchwood area has been demonstrated time and again since arriving 15 years ago, and this particular investment shows that there’s no sign of slowing down.
“We remain committed to continuing to exceed our levels of service, both through the activities and benefits available to all occupiers and through the buildings themselves. We pride ourselves on offering spaces which impress customers and clients, and on being a landlord that goes the extra mile in helping businesses to provide their staff with an inspiration and vibrant atmosphere and a productive working environment.”
