Curtain raised on architects' biggest North East BIM export
Newcastle architects _space group have given a taster of their forthcoming BIM Show Live - due to take place in Manchester in April.
The firm’s building information modelling (BIM) consultancy, BIM.Technologies hosted an exclusive event preview this week at Newcastle’s Live Theatre.
BIM Show Live was launched by Space Group in 2011 following a visit to the annual Autodesk University Conference in Las Vegas where BIM.Technologies identified an opportunity to develop a similar event in Europe.
Last year’s hugely successful annual return saw six hundred delegates and sponsors attend Westminster’s Park Plaza over two days.
Key themes for BIM Show Live 2014 were previewed at the event in three exclusive seminars, followed by the official judges’ launch of the ‘Call for Papers’ and networking drinks for some of the region’s well-known construction industry influencers.
_space group CEO Rob Charlton said: “The North East is a centre of excellence in the UK for BIM and so it’s a pleasure to be able to offer this preview in the heart of Newcastle.
“We hope that by bringing BIM Show Live to Manchester this year, we’ll be able to attract more of our friends in the North – many of whom have come along to find out more today – and visitors from further afield in Scotland, as well as our strong London following.”
Companies in attendance included Arup, Autodesk and NBS. The show’s recognised mascot – the BIM Storm Trooper – also proved to be a conversation starter at the Live Theatre.
Rob concluded: “We developed BIM Show Live in response to the lack of quality events for the UK’s BIM practitioners and each year, it’s got even bigger and better with last year’s event being the most heavily subscribed BIM Show Live to date.
“The government’s BIM mandate on all new buildings by 2016 has also done much by way of getting BIM on a wider and more urgent radar so we’re expecting a great response at this year’s formalities.”
Now in its fourth year, BIM Show Live promotes BIM via a variety of keynote presentations, industry panels and dedicated classroom sessions, often with an element of heated debate.
