Solar Angel faces the green dragons

Northumberland-based Natural Technology Developments (NTD) has beaten off stiff competition to present its Solar Angel panel at the national Cleantech Innovate event in London this week.

The event will showcase 40 of the most promising green UK technologies at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers on Thursday (February 13), giving UK investment-ready companies the opportunity to present their cutting edge green technologies in a Dragon’s Den-style environment to an audience including potential investors and corporate buyers.

The event will be kick-started by a keynote address from Greg Barker MP, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change which will be followed by live presentations from the pre-selected companies.

Showcasing its hybrid solar PV-T panel, which generates both electricity and hot water, NTD managing director Paul Laidler said: “The prospect of presenting to a ‘Green Dragon’ is interesting and a great way for us to showcase the product and demonstrate clean tech advancements to potential national investors.

“As we launch our first product, investment to help us to maximise opportunities and grow the business further will be vital to our success.”

The shortlist of finalists was drawn up by a selection committee using a scoring matrix based on four criteria including impact, innovation, long-term vision and commercial viability.

Robert Hokin, CEO of organiser ecoConnect, said: “We are delighted to be able to showcase such an outstanding range of UK-based technologies, which could make a significant impact on the delivery of the low carbon economy.”

Solar Angel will be the first UK PV-T panel on the market when it receives its full MCS accreditation and Solar Keymark next month, in time for launch at London’s Ecobuild exhibition.

The Solar Angel panel generates both electricity and hot water, and has proved to be over four times more energy efficient than standalone solar PV panels in recent tests carried out by experts at the world leading Florida Solar Energy Centre (FSEC).
