TyneMet engineering student recognised for showing 100% commitment

A TyneMet engineering student has been recognised for his hard work and determination and also his impressive 100% attendance record.

Jordan Hindmarch, 19, from Whitley Bay, was nominated by his teachers at TyneMet College for the ‘Student of the Term’ award because of his 100% attendance record and the fact that he has demonstrated an excellent understanding of the practical and academic elements of his engineering course.

Jordan is currently studying on the Level 3 National Subsidiary Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Once he has completed the course, he will return to TyneMet to continue his studies on the Extended Diploma in Engineering - which will give him the entry qualifications he needs to apply for a place on a Civil Engineering Degree course at university.

Mick Burton, Head of Engineering at TyneMet College, said:

“We currently have over 900 students studying a variety of engineering courses here at TyneMet, 200 of these students were eligible for a student of the term nomination- Jordan has done exceptionally well this term, and to be recognised as student of the term in such a large and competitive category is testament to his hard work.”

“The Level 3 National Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering is designed for people who want to apply for an apprenticeship in engineering or who would like to eventually study engineering at a higher level.

“Out of the 26 students who studied at TyneMet College on the Level 3 National Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering, last year, 16 students moved on to become Engineering Apprentices, five others have returned to TyneMet to study higher engineering qualifications to apply for university places and four others moved on to other engineering courses.”
