New chair for Merseyside branch of Chartered Institute of Taxation

The Chartered Institute of Taxation’s (CIOT) Merseyside branch has appointed a new Chair.

Rob Adams, its current Vice Chair and Senior Tax Manager at Grant Thornton, will take over from Ronnie Fell. His formal engagement will be at the CIOT annual dinner, to be held at the Crowne Plaza, on 27th February and being sponsored by Grant Thornton.

The CIOT, the leading professional body in the UK for tax advisers deals with all aspects of taxation. As a not-for-profit organisation its purpose is to promote education in taxation and to communicate the role of the Institute to a wide stakeholder group.

Mr Adams said: “I am looking forward to stepping up to the Chair position and wish to continue the excellent work that Ronnie has undertaken in the past three years, particularly in supporting members and students and engaging with the Merseyside business community.

“An idea I would like in particular to take forward is the Apprenticeship Training Programme being offered by the Institute.

“This is ideally suited to school-leavers who may wish to postpone or forego their path straight onto University from leaving school. I intend to make sure the Branch promotes the idea to schools and colleges as an excellent opportunity for students.”

The Merseyside branch of the CIOT has 715 qualified members and 286 students who are studying for their qualification. It has a calendar of CPD events, including a combination of workshops and lectures.

Nationally the CIOT has 17,000 Chartered Tax Adviser members who are subject to the Institute’s professional standards and are supported by its London head office and worldwide network of 40 branches.
