UK leading distributor visits TMC - TyneMet College’s New Construction Training Facility

Construction students at TMC in Benton, TyneMet College’s new construction training facility, were the first in the North East to receive a visit from the UK’s leading distributor of tools, maintenance and health and safety products, Buck & Hickman.

During the visit professionals from Buck & Hickman introduced the students to the latest personal protective equipment and showed them how to wear and use this equipment effectively. Each student is required, under health and safety laws, to ensure that they have the appropriate personal protective equipment when undertaking their practical training and in the workplace.

The students were also introduced to a variety of hand and skin cleaning products and were advised how and when they should be used.

The students were very interested in the live demonstrations of new technology and tools which were delivered by professional trades people, they were also excited to learn more about the many types of power tools and hand tools available on the market – they all took on board the important advice about the correct use of industry standard tools for their type of work.

All of the students and staff at TMC enjoyed meeting Buck & Hickman representatives and were happy to take away with them freebies which included; mugs, pens, samples of hand cleansers and catalogues. Throughout the day a competition was held and a member of TMC staff was delighted with his winning prize of a state of the art spanner set!

TMC are in communication with a number of local businesses with the aim of creating relationships so that students can be introduced to relevant companies that all the trades use. Currently these businesses include B&Q Trade Point, Howden’s, Jewson’s, Travis Perkins and JT Doves to name a few.
