DWF Manchester charity football tournament raises more than £2,500
20 Manchester-based companies have raised more than £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support by taking part in a charity football tournament hosted by business law firm DWF.
The competition, which took place at the Lucozade Powerleague Trafford Soccerdome, Trafford Park, was a fundraising event for DWF Manchester’s charity of the year, Macmillan and was organised by Phil Duignan, an associate in the Commercial Litigation team.
The overall tournament winners came from DWF, with KPMG receiving the runner up prize. Styles & Wood claimed first place in the Plate Competition, with Jones Lang La Salle coming a close second. Chris Farmworth from Bibby Financial was named Player of the Tournament.
Other companies fielding teams included: BDO, Brown Shipley, Bruntwood, Convex Capital, Complete Money Group, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Hurst, First Actuarial, Leonard Curtis, Manchester City Council, Positive Cashflow Finance, RBS IF and Styles and Wood. Brunel International UK Limited and DWF both put forward two teams.
David Pickering, executive partner at DWF’s Manchester office, commented: “Manchester is famous for its football and there is a thriving footballing community within the professional services sector here.
“This tournament provided a great opportunity to bring together some of our key contacts and clients while raising money for our charity of the year, Macmillan.”
Becky Bainton, fundraising manager in Greater Manchester for Macmillan Cancer Support added: “We would like to thank DWF for organising the tournament and all the companies involved.
“£2,500 can fund 100 hours of a Macmillan nurse which provides vital support and advice when it is needed most. At Macmillan we want to make sure no one has to face cancer alone and with support from companies like DWF we are able to go a long way to reach our ambition.”
