North East recruiters open Dubai base

Washington based specialist recruitment agency for the oil and gas industry, Oil Consultants Ltd., has opened a Dubai office.

This latest move follows another year of record growth that has seen the company establish itself as a leader in its field.

Gareth Allen, regional director for Oil Consultants in the Middle East, Africa and India regions, said: “One of the most important factors in our growth has been the emphasis we place on working closely with both our clients and consultants.

“By having a physical presence in an area we develop a better understanding of the local situation and can respond much more quickly to requests. In a time when more and more agencies are doing business via the internet and telephone, having people on the ground really helps us differentiate ourselves.”

The Middle East has become a major focus for Oil Consultants in the last year as many of the countries in the region look to recruit more local workers and move away from a reliance on ‘ex-pats’.

“There is a definite skills shortage in our industry,” says Gareth, “and many regions are looking to develop the experience and knowledge of their national workforce to meet growing production demands.

“Our base in the region will help us work more closely with clients of all sizes, from the National Oil Companies to Operators and Service Companies, to ensure all candidates meet their specific requirements and, most importantly, are able to do the work required of them in a safe and competent manner.”

He added: “We already have a number of field based personnel in the Middle East and over the course of the next twelve months we will look to recruit locally in Dubai to further support our customer service operations.

“This is an exciting time to be working in the region and this new office is just the first step in our expansion plans. At the same time, this development will require support from our UK team and could lead to more jobs being created in the North East.”
