International freight firm scoops the trophy at Best New Business Awards
A freight and international shipping company has sailed off with the top award at the Best New Business Awards Tees Valley.
The well-attended event, held at the Middlesbrough Riverside Stadium on Monday (Feb 17), attracted industry leaders and entrepreneurs from a wide range of sectors.
The Best New Business Awards Tees Valley shines the spotlight on firms in the area that are making a valuable contribution to regional economic regeneration in their first three years of trading.
And this year attracted a record number of entries – almost 100.
International shipping and dangerous goods specialist Evolution Forwarding was named overall winner at the awards, whose main sponsors this year are Colin Brown of Lighthouse Financial Services Ltd, Tees Valley Unlimited, Teesside University and PD Ports.
The company also collected the Award for Service, sponsored by Middlesbrough Council.
Terry Goldspink, director at family-run Evolution Forwarding, was thrilled to receive the award and said: “We have our customers and our fantastic staff to thank for this award – our business has evolved successfully throughout a difficult trading time globally, and it all comes down to offering excellent customer service.”
Evolution Forwarding, based at Skippers Lane Industrial Estate, was just one of a host of winners at the Best New Business Awards, in their 14th year.
The awards are organised by Colin Brown of Lighthouse Financial Services Ltd, and were set up to recognise those new businesses in the region that are helping drive economic growth.
Colin said firms that thrive during a recession are well-placed for success: “It’s only right that we recognise and reward the achievements of new businesses and the enormous part they play in bringing about economic growth.
“Well-run start-ups have the power to change the economic landscape and as their competitors fall by the wayside they are in a much stronger position to take the lion’s share of the marketplace.”
