UK's largest harbour crane comes to Tees bringing 40 jobs
Around 40 new jobs will be created as the UK’s largest harbour crane has arrived in the North East.
The mulit-million pound Leibherr crane from Rostock in Germany has been specially designed for Able Seaton Port, where it will play a major part in the expansion of the firm’s Tees and Humber operations.
It is able to lift 208 tonnes and has a 58-metre radius to stand over tall structures such as oil rigs.
The crane will be used for cargo handling, lifting of offshore wind sector components and maintenance of oil and gas drilling rigs.
Able UK managing director Andrew Jacques “The acquisition of this specialist crane underlines our future proofing to ensure that we continue to provide the best possible service to meet the needs of our customers.
“It will certainly help to attract more business to Seaton Port and the Tees providing more opportunities for local businesses and further complimenting the construction of new quays at Seaton Port—one of which will be used for loading of single-piece offshore structures of up to 48,000 tonnes.”
The crane’s arrival also coincides with Able’s latest contract win, which will see it dispose of four offshore structures from the Shell operated Brent Field in the North Sea.
