Newcastle United post £9.9 million profit

Newcastle United Football Club has posted a major £8.5 million increase in profits across the 2012/13 financial year.

A statement to fans attributed the strong set of results to player trading, good commercial performance and a curb on the business’ losses, from £5.1 million to £616k.

This week the club revealed its financial figures for the year ended June 2013, showing profits had risen from £1.4 million in 2011/12 to £9.9 million.

£28.7 million was spent on players during the period, including the signing of Vurnon Anita, Mathieu Debuchy, Yoan Gouffran, Masssadio Haïdara, Moussa Sissoko and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

The club’s outgoings were recouped £11.1 million on outgoing players including Leon Best, Demba Ba and Fraser Forster.

Turnover at Newcastle United rose to £95.9 million, up from £93.3 million in the year previously - driven by a 24.2% increase in commercial revenues, which reached £17.1 million.

The club said strong season ticket renewals increased matchday turnover, which includes tickets sales and hospitality, by 15.9% to £27.8million.
