Sheffield developer wins £8.5 million Edinburgh hotel contract
Sheffield-based developer, JF Finnegan, has been awarded an £8.5 million contract to construct a 110 bedroom, four-star rated Accor Mercure brand hotel in Edinburgh.
London-based Croydon Hotels, which owns the former office block site at Gardener’s Crescent in the centre of Edinburgh, has appointed JF Finnegan to build the 7 storey hotel which it will privately own and operate under the Accor Mercure brand.
JF Finnegan has now started on site building the concrete substructure which is the first phase of their 60 week contract which will complete at the end of March 2015.
Croydon Hotels is working alongside an Accor-approved designer on the internal fit-out design which JF Finnegan will implement and the hotel is set to open its doors in Spring 2015.
Recent JF Finnegan projects include the Holiday Inn Express hotels in central Sheffield and Bedford and the Ibis Hotel at Shude Hill, a Costco construction in Hampshire and Bishop Auckland Shopping Park retail scheme.
Dawa Singh, Head of Pre-Construction at JF Finnegan, said; “Drawing on our previous hotel experience, we were able to respond swiftly to the initial enquiry in November in order to finalise contracts over the festive period and commence work on site in Edinburgh in recent weeks.
“We are delighted to be working with a London-based client on an Edinburgh project, further demonstrating our ability to work UK-wide from our Sheffield Headquarters.”
Director of Croydon Hotels, Shamir Patel, continued; “The new Edinburgh Mercure hotel is an exciting new addition to our growing portfolio and we are delighted with how promptly and smoothly the JF Finnegan team was able to bring the project to life.
“The hotel’s central location and quality of development will deliver a fresh offering to the popular Edinburgh hotel scene.”
