£4 million recycling revamp proposed for Leeds plant

If plans receive the green light, it’s anticipated that works at one of Leeds’ 8 recycling centres, estimated at just over £4 million, will start in late 2014.

Members of Leeds City Council’s executive board are being asked to approve works that will “vastly improve” facilities at the Kirkstall Road recycling centre at their next meeting.

If councillors agree, detailed design works will be finalised and a full planning application submitted.

If, following the normal planning consultation period, plans subsequently receive the green light, it’s hoped that the refurbished site will help increase the city’s recycling performance and cut the amount of waste going to landfill.

Councillor Mark Dobson, executive member for the environment, said: “Our recycling centres are a key element of our strategy to help people recycle as much waste as possible.

“The site at Kirkstall Road, while well used, is in need of modernisation. Upgrading the site is the next step in our ambitious plans to encourage people to re-use and recycle even more.”
