Apartments offer luxury living for the over-55s

Apartment living in Northumbria may be popular amongst young people setting off on the property ladder but it also offers great flexibility for the over-55s, claims a leading builder.

Charles Church North East has developed a range of apartments in the historic town of Alnwick where people can enjoy all the convenience of living close to local stores, restaurants, boutiques and leisure facilities.

The stylish one and two-bedroom apartments at Windsor Park, in Park View, are all finished to a high standard with design details including flexible living space, luxurious bathrooms and en-suites.

Debbie Zaben, sales and marketing director for Charles Church North East, said: “We are getting a lot of interest in these apartments from people who have retired or are planning for their retirement as well as investors, and it is easy to see why.

“The apartments are in the heart of this historic town, which has fantastic facilities and is only a short walk from Alnwick Castle. It is a really beautiful place, full of picturesque cobbled streets, narrow alleys and beautiful stone buildings which now house specialist shops and family businesses.

“It is easy to see why it is popular with tourists and offers the best of both worlds to people living there with real rural charm as well as fantastic transport links.”

The town is situated largely on the south bank of the River Aln, 32 miles south of Berwick-upon-Tweed and is within easy reach of the Scottish border. It is also five miles inland from the North Sea at Alnmouth and 34 miles north of the city of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Debbie added: “It really is a wonderful location with everything that Alnwick has to offer as well as a beautiful scenery right on your doorstep. It offers a real slice of Northumbrian life.

“We can offer people advice on the various schemes available to help buyers, but these apartments, which start from £90,000, are appealing to downsizers who want to release capital and make their retirement more secure.

“The Government-backed Help to Buy scheme has also proved popular with our buyers. It provides a 20% loan on the term of a mortgage, which is interest and repayment free for the first five years. People only need a 5% deposit and it is available across the vast majority of our developments. It’s for first time and next time buyers and there is no salary cap.”
