North East driving school go electric

A North East driving school has invested in a Nissan Leaf in order to offer its students the chance to learn in an electric car.

Tyneside-based Superpass have purchased a dual-controlled Leaf to add to its fleet, operating across the region.

Mansel Wetherell, co-owner of the Tyneside-based firm said: “Everyone is aware of the damage cars can cause to the environment and we have been working hard to find ways of minimising that damage while still providing our pupils with superb quality at affordable prices.

“We’ve already introduced low emission diesel cars with stop, start technology to our fleet and a fully electric, automatic car was the obvious next step.”

One of the first to get behind of the wheel of the new vehicle was newly qualified driver Vicky Donnelly, 21, from Throckley.

She said: “It’s the first time I’ve driven an automatic car, let alone an electric one but it really was lovely to drive and incredibly smooth and quiet.

“My generation are really conscious of environmental issues and I think it’s great that learner drivers now have this option.”

There is no extra charge for the electric car, which will be available to all those Superpass pupils who wish to sit their test in an automatic vehicle.
