Cheshire house building project gets green light

Cheshire West and Chester Council has granted outline planning permission for a construction project for 103 homes and a shop.

Wright Manley and Steppingstone Building Developments Limited want to build on the site of Beeston Cattle Market, Chester.

Twenty per cent of the homes on site would be affordable with a clawback mechanism providing a commuted sum to the equivalent of 35 percent.

Debating the application, Councillor Mike Jones told members that an earlier decision to give approval for twenty homes on the same site should not set a precedent and asked that the application should be refused:

He said: “It is a major scheme and it is over 100 percent the size of Beeston, so this is a dramatic change to the rural area”

Councillor Norman Wright said: “I actually welcome this proposition. The site will become derelict and will become an eyesore in the beautiful landscape that surrounds the area.”

The council’s Strategic Planning Committee approved the scheme by seven votes to two.
