IOE’s qualifications to boost export knowledge of Estonian businesses

The Institute of Export’s qualifications will now be studied by Estonian businesses as part of a European Union project to support exporters who are branching out into new international markets.

The project, which is also helping companies to boost existing export sales, is spearheaded by the Estonian Marketingi Instituut and Enterprise Estonia who will jointly deliver the educational qualifications.

Enterprise Estonia is working with 25 candidates from 25 companies to offer an e-learning programme using existing and proven courses from other countries. Qualifications offered by the Institute of Export (IOE) and the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) have been selected because their content is best suited to Estonian exporters.

Successful applicants have met strict criteria relating to their knowledge of English, average salary and their company’s export growth plans.

Said Kevin Shakespeare, director of education at the Institute of Export “Those taking the IOE qualifications will acquire an in-depth view of all key exporting issues; from market selection to customer selection, together with the best means of selling into a foreign market and getting paid on time.

“Our programme also reviews how best to exploit sales opportunities, how to manage associated risks such as credit and currency risks as well as efficient legal practices including management of intellectual property.”

Mentors support participants from the Estonian companies throughout the process and students undergo quarterly seminars to discuss the relevance of the learning to their export activities.
