130-year-old Yorkshire retail chain expands with 2 new stores in the Midlands
Yorkshire-based store chain W Boyes & Co Ltd is continuing its expansion with the opening of two stores in the Midlands.
The retail chain, has acquired a lease for a new store in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, along with the freehold purchase of a former Woolworth’s site in Coalville, Leicestershire.
In addition, the chain has renewed leases for existing stores in Melton Mowbray and Lincoln, and has purchased the freehold of an existing Boyes store in Kendal.
The Scarborough based chain was supported in each of the deals by Langleys Solicitors LLP.
The York and Lincoln based law firm has previously advised Boyes on store openings throughout the East Midlands as well as a lease deal for a store in Skipton.
W Boyes & Co Ltd was launched in 1881 when William Boyes opened a small store in Scarborough selling odd lots and remnants from merchants. The business soon moved into larger premises and opened stores in York and Hull in the early 1900’s.
The latest acquisitions take the total number of outlets in the chain to a landmark 50, spanning Yorkshire, the North East, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
Andrew Boyes, managing director said: “We’re committed to increasing our presence across the North and Midlands and these latest store openings and lease renewals are a testament to that. The team at Langleys have supported us in each of these deals.”
Tim Cross, Head of Commercial Property at Langleys, commented: “We’re proud to work alongside such a burgeoning Yorkshire company, as it expands its offering to other parts of the UK.
“We have established an excellent relationship with the team at Boyes over the course of their ongoing expansion, and we’re looking forward to it continuing in the future.”
