50 new jobs created after £500k investment at Calderdale environmental firm

50 new jobs are being created at a West Yorkshire environmental company as part of a £500,000 upgrade to its Calderdale headquarters.

The Leo Group, a specialist in recycling and green energy, is making the investment at its site at Swalesmoor, near Halifax.

The package of improvements will include extensions to existing warehouses to help its pet food manufacturing arm keep pace with increased demand from clients across Europe.

And it will also see the creation of a purpose-designed staff welfare block, which will feature a wide range of amenities including a canteen, laundry, toilets, lockers and showers.

Group property manager Brian Maguire said: “This investment – both in facilities and in jobs – is a signal of our continuing support to the economy of Calderdale and the people who live in its community.

“We currently have around 150 people employed at our Swalesmoor site and, with our innovative ways of working helping to attract new business, we expect this figure to top 200 by the end of the year.

“The extra 50 jobs will build extra capacity and capability to every strand of operations carried out on the site, including our HQ office staff and sales teams.”

He added: “We know from previous recruitment drives that there is no shortage of local talent in Calderdale and the surrounding area and once again will look to the local community to help us fill these new jobs.”

The company recently posted a 20% increase in annual turnover and an increase in market share, despite operating in the face of increased competition.

It is re-investing 98% of its retained profits back into the business – with the extra jobs and new facilities at Swalesmoor forming just one element of the programme.

Another focus in the coming year for the company is further investment in renewable energy technologies to widen its service portfolio and diversify into energy generation through biomass fuels.
