Former Energy Minister to speak at Tyneside conference
Former Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change Charles Hendry MP is set to speak at a major energy conference in Newcastle this week.
Mr Hendry will speak on behalf of the Department of Climate Change and Energy on the UK industrial strategy for Oil & Gas in the UK, at NOF Energy’s national conference.
The conference will host nearly 400 energy sector professionals, and will include talks from UK Onshore Operators Group’s Ken Cronin on shale gas.
George Rafferty, chief executive of NOF Energy, the business development organisation for the oil, gas, nuclear and renewable energy sectors, said: “It is important that those in the energy sector learn at first hand future Government policy particularly at a time when alternative sources, such as onshore gas extraction, are being explored.
“Charles Hendry’s keynote address will provide delegates with an insight into what the Government is planning to support growth and diversification across the range of energy streams.
“The conference will channel the knowledge necessary to make preparations for potential opportunities that will emerge in the wake of upcoming Government energy strategies.”
Catherine Walker, inward investment manager at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: “It is fitting that the North East is once again hosting this prestigious conference. The region’s strong mix of industry, research and innovation assets, natural resources, infrastructure and skills has created a global reputation which continues to grow in strength, importance and influence across the oil and gas, nuclear and renewables industries.
“Through combining these assets with a bespoke package of business support services, Invest NewcastleGateshead is committed to helping the marine and offshore sector here grow and prosper.”
