Cumbria launches procurement consultation

Businesses, residents and organisations in Cumbria are being asked for their views to help shape the way the county council buys in goods and services.

The key aims of the strategy include a drive for greater efficiency, supporting local businesses, suppliers and the third sector, and delivering growth.

Councillor Ian Stewart, Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet Member for Procurement, said: “Every year Cumbria County Council buys in goods and services worth over £250 million. In the interests of everyone we want to see this money spent in a way that brings most benefit to our county.

“It is very important that any procurement strategy meets this need. Please give us your views on whether this document meets our aims of producing even greater efficiencies while helping to deliver local growth, through supporting suppliers who are both local businesses and “third sector” organisations.”

A public consultation on the council’s draft sustainable procurement strategy – a document setting out how the authority can use procurement for the benefit of the local economy and communities – is available on the council website at www.haveyoursay.org.uk [this external link will open in a new window]

The consultation process ends on 9 May.
