Jomast Development Partnership Delivers Expansion for Central England Co-op
A development partnership between property developer, Jomast, and Central England Co-operative, one of the UK’s largest independent retail co-operative societies, could facilitate the opening of further retail outlets across the country to better serve local communities.
The latest at Annesley Woodhouse in Nottinghamshire is the first store to be developed by Jomast on behalf of Central England Co-op and includes circa 3,000 sq ft of retail space (4,500 sq ft gross), and car parking for 16 vehicles.
Built on the site of the former General Havelock pub, Jomast’s expertise in sourcing suitable sites, securing planning consents and developing and constructing projects on behalf of major clients was influential in completing the build within a tight 14 week period, ensuring the Co-op were able to open in February 2014.
And, having recently opened as a local convenience store, it has created 23 new jobs and provides important benefit to the local community and its economy.
Adam Hearld, Development Director at Jomast commented, “This is one of many retail development projects that we are currently delivering on behalf of Central England Co-operative and our ability to secure and fund site acquisitions, manage the planning process, facilitate and develop projects of this nature is key to completing within such tight deadlines.
“By working in close partnership with occupiers, we are able to obtain a thorough understanding of their requirements and vision and deliver retail schemes from small convenience stores to large food and non-food retail formats. Annesley Woodhouse is a good example of how we can partner successfully with a retailer and assist them in delivering corporate expansion strategies.”
Central England Co-operative currently has over 400 trading outlets across 16 counties including West Midlands, Warwickshire, Lincolnshire, West Yorkshire and Bedfordshire, and has an ambitious food store development programme earmarked for 2014.
Andrew Buckley, Head of Acquisitions and Estates at Central England Co-operative added, “We’re pleased to be working with Jomast to bring a modern convenience food store offering a wide range of products to the local community. It will join our recently opened food store at Chapel Street, Kirby-in-Ashfield.
“Our colleagues at the new store on Skegby Road look forward to welcoming new customers.”
Jomast is one of the UK’s leading property development, investment and regeneration specialists with commercial and residential real estate assets in excess of £250m.
