Creative Studios Art Students Showcase their Artistic Talents
HND Fine Art students studying at The Creative Studios, part of TyneMet College, in North Shields are showcasing their work at an exhibition open to the general public.
‘The Four Seasons’ exhibition will is on display in the Beacon Shopping Centre, in the premises located next to Spec Savers from Tuesday 11th March until Thursday 3rd April 2014, 10.00 - 3.00pm.
The students’ paintings and digital images demonstrate a range of technical and stylistic approaches, resulting in a very imaginative and exciting body of visual art.
At some stage during the four week exhibition a selection panel will make decisions about how many of the works will be displayed on a longer term basis within the Beacon Shopping Centre. Those selected will be printed on double sided Foamex panels and suspended throughout the centre.
A Private View of the exhibition was held on Monday 17th March; over 80 people attended the view including Sean Collier, Business and Enterprise Manager, North Tyneside Council, Paul Murphy, Retail Consultant, North Tyneside Council, Jon Vincent, Principal and Chief Executive, TyneMet College and Peter Ling from Forum Marketing. The students were delighted to introduce their art work to all of the guests. The event proved to be a huge success with the guests openly admiring the pieces on display from all of the very talented student artists.
Dr John O’Rourke, Course Leader, HND Fine Art & Design, Creative Studios, said:
“The art work showcased at this exhibition session is of a very high standard; the students put all of their creative talent to the test and produced some amazing pieces or art. We are delighted to have been able to utilise the space within the Beacon Shopping Centre, the venue provided an excellent context to the featured displays.
Having the opportunity to share these works with the general public is a fantastic experience for the students. I would particularly like to thank the owners of the shopping centre for allowing us to make use of the space.“
Chris Wilson, Beacon Centre Manager said:
“The new owners of the Beacon Centre are keen to make more of an impact in the malls, and to brighten them up. As we had previously had an exhibition with the Creative Studios, we immediately knew who to go to, as the quality of the students’ artwork is excellent. I am sure we will have hundreds of people viewing the work in the shop unit.
“We are looking forward very much to seeing the work produced, and choosing some suitable examples to enhance our shopping centre over the next 12 months. It is good to work locally with the College and we are confident of an excellent outcome.”
David Bavaird, Chair, North Shields Chamber of Commerce, said:
“We are delighted that the students from The Creative Studios have returned to North Shields with this exhibition which will be an attractive display for residents and visitors to the town and is a further demonstration of the close links which the town has with local schools and colleges.”
Cllr Frank Lott, North Tyneside Council’s Cabinet member responsible for Economic Development, said:
“North Tyneside Council continues to work hard to support the viability and vitality of its town centres and reduce shop vacancy rates, through its Retail Centres Task Group. Using shop premises for this kind of creative purpose is a really good way of making them useful to the wider community while they’re unoccupied, whilst supporting the excellent work of the students from TyneMet College.”
