Mersey businesses warned to plan for emergencies

Businesses across the Liverpool city region are being advised to ensure they don’t count the cost of being hit by emergencies.

As part of Business Continuity Week, the Resilient Liverpool Business Forum is urging all firms – big and small – to make sure they have a business continuity plan.

The theme of this year’s week is “counting the cost” and focuses on the potential cost of not having an effective business continuity management system.

The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Gary Millar, who chairs the forum said; “This year we have seen the devastating effect of floods can have on businesses in the South West and Thames Valley.

“While we have escaped the worst of the weather – next time it could hit our city. And it does not have to be floods or indeed, any other severe weather which affect businesses. Power cuts, fire, illness epidemics, industrial disputes, for example could all hit trade.

“So it is important that organisations anticipate and prepare for any emergencies which after them trading.

“We want Liverpool to be a really resilient city which is always open for business.

“And, as such, we do not want any firm to end up counting the cost of not having a business continuity plan.”
