Leeds' Airedale wins major pan-African telecoms firm client
Leeds’ Airedale has teamed up with Johannesburg-based RSA to develop a data cooling centre for pan-African telecoms company Vodacom Pty Ltd.
This will enable Vodacom to meet the increase in demand for its data centre applications and will take 12-16 weeks from manufacture to installation and commissioning.
Cooling resilience and system uptime were critical factors in the development of the centre due to the “divergent environmntal conditions” according to the firm.
It had to withstand the heat of sub-Saharan Africa, cooler coastal locations such as Cape Town, the hot and humid climate of Durban and the extremes of heat and cold of high altitude locations like Johannesburg.
Fred Weber, Senior Specialist, Vodacom Technical Facilities Division said: “Meeting the many design and cost challenges of the project would not have been possible without the professional support and expertise of Vodacom’s business partners and, in particular, Airedale who played a significant and innovative role.
“Airedale delivered with speed and urgency, and the quality of their cutting-edge air conditioning plant designs will make a major contribution to Vodacom’s strategy.
“The energy efficiency of the modular data facilities fully complements Vodacom programme to reduce the Group’s overall carbon footprint.”
The solution was developed in conjunction with Airedale’s technical team in the UK and manufactured locally by Johannesburg-based,Airedale International South Africa.
