Manchester’s Piccadilly hoteliers appoint new chair

Paul Bayliss, General Manager of Macdonald Manchester Hotel and Spa, has been appointed as the new chair of the Piccadilly Hoteliers Action Group which is co-ordinated through CityCo, Manchester’s city centre management company.

The nine-strong group of hotels meet bi-monthly to share information and discuss issues that are specific to their part of the city centre. Representatives from Manchester City Council and Greater Manchester Police also attend the meetings.

Invited speakers from organisations including Creative Tourist, Mayfield Depot, TfGM, Network Rail and Manchester Central have come to talk to the group about development plans. There are also plans for hotel staff to visit key venues such as the Etihad Stadium, Phones 4U Arena and Manchester Central.

Currently the members of the Piccadilly Hoteliers Action Group include: Abode, Doubletree by Hilton, Macdonald Manchester, Macdonald Townhouse Hotel, Malmaison, Mercure Manchester Piccadilly, SACO Apartments, StayManchester and The Portland Hotel by Thistle Manchester.

Paul Bayliss, new chair of the Piccadilly Hoteliers Action Group, said: “This group is invaluable as a means of keeping on top of changes in the city that specifically impact on the Piccadilly area.

“It’s great to be able to hear directly from Manchester City Council and GMP about their plans and ensure the hotel community has a voice in the city. I’m really pleased to chair the group and look forward to welcoming new members as our sector continues to grow.”

Alexandra King, Partnership Director at CityCo added: “It’s great to have Paul take the reins. His vast experience in the hotel trade is invaluable and under his leadership the group will no doubt go from strength to strength.

At CityCo, we are constantly looking for ways to ensure city centre businesses are better informed about issues that affect them. Forums like this provide a very effective way of doing this.“

CityCo manage a number of action groups in Piccadilly, Chinatown and the Northern Quarter.
