Stimulating social initiative Wax Lyrical to be showcased at The Brink

The Brink is set to host this year’s second showing of the highly applauded Wax Lyrical.

Located on Parr Street, the popular dry bar has teamed up with The Open Door Centre, to promote the awareness of key contemporary issues - whilst providing excellent entertainment from the city’s best musicians.

On Saturday, March 22, guests will be invited to participate in group discussion surrounding probation and the plight of ex-offenders in today’s world. Additionally, a variety of live performances from the home-grown talents Jimmy and the Revolvers and Beach Skulls, will also be showcased throughout the evening.

Events manager, David Barnicle said: “This month’s Wax Lyrical will provoke an audience led discussion about the issues faced by ex-offenders, such as the stigmatisms and stereotypes that are generated through society. The aim of the initiative is to enable an open dialogue amongst the public, as well as offering them a warm and sincere community hub.

“Also, we have a fantastic line-up of live music performances, which will inspire and entertain audio savvy members of the public.”

The Brink was set up in 2011 to provide a safe and supportive place for people who want to enjoy an alcohol-free atmosphere. It was also the UK’s first dry bar and restaurant.

It is a social venue for the general public interested in gastro-food, quirky non-alcoholic drinks and interesting events, such as film nights, tea tastings, comedy, open mic nights, and much more.

David added: “As well as frequently showcasing audience led social initiatives - we also offer a brilliant varied array of events and live entertainment, which appeals to every one of all ages and backgrounds.

“The free ethos of The Brink combined with its unique food and drink offerings certainly makes us a thriving social site that stands out from the crowd.”
