North East projects vie for prestigious awards
Projects from all across the North East will battle it out for two prestigious prizes at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East’s Robert Stephenson Awards.
The awards include two categories, celebrating projects valued greater than and less than £4 million. Awards are presented at the ICE North East Annual Dinner in May.
The 11 entries for this year’s awards come from Darlington, Durham City, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Longhorsely, Newcastle, Redcar, South Shields, Wark and Whitley Bay.
Outstanding projects which are considered to be particularly environmentally sustainable, or help to contribute to the preservation of the region’s heritage, or where innovation features strongly, may be given additional or special awards.
The ICE North East Annual Dinner takes place on May 1, as part of a two-day visit to the region by the Institution’s President, Geoff French.
Derek Smith, ICE North East Chairman said: “This is the time of year when we get to celebrate excellence within the civil engineering sector in our region on a grand scale. Once more, we have some fantastic entries highlighting some hugely valuable projects and we look forward to reflecting upon these at the Annual Dinner.”
