Hodgson Sayers celebrate 35 years in the North East

Stanley-based building and roofing specialists, Hodgson Sayers, is ‘up a height’ as it celebrates the company’s 35th birthday.

The business has a lot to celebrate, having recently won a prestigious industry award with its client, ISOS Housing and has been recognised in the NE Business awards for developing the careers of talented youngsters in the area through its range of apprenticeship schemes.

With over 100 employees, the company is marking the achievement with a series of fundraising events and employee initiatives throughout the year.

Managing Director, John Sayers, said: “We wanted to celebrate our legacy and give something back to the community in which we operate.

“35 years is a long time in business and to say that we are still growing is testament to our staff and the communities they come from. Many of the team are from the local area, joined the company as youngsters and have developed their careers with us. This is very much a culture we want to continue with our next generation of apprentices and younger staff.

“Hard work, good training and the commitment to want to make the company a real success, is why we are driving forward.

“It’s also a time to turn the spotlight on our executive chairman, William Hodgson, the man who started it all off and who remains very much at the heart of the business. Where we are today is as a result of his courage, passion and drive.

“Everyone is keen to get involved and we already have a small team signed up to do this year’s Great North Run. In addition, one of our operatives, David Prior, is undertaking a three-day charity cycle ride in aid of Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, Freeman Hospital. Hodgson Sayers will provide the transport and a donation.”

William Hodgson, executive chairman at Hodgson Sayers, said: “We have really stood the test of time over the last 35 years, from small beginnings in the early days to becoming a major employer in the Durham area and that is testament to everyone who has worked here, both past and present employees.

“This is my chance to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to our success over the last 35 years and to those who remain in the business, I hope they continue to enjoy the journey.”

Established in 1979, as Hodgson & Allon, the company began primarily as a roofing contractor. Over the years it has developed and diversified considerably to include building works, fencing and metalwork fabrication.

Its ISO 9001 accredited operations are reflected in the consistently high standards of delivery, presentation and all processes.
