Work underway on £22m regeneration in Blackpool
Building work has started on a £22m project to regenerate five 1960s tower blocks in Blackpool – replacing them with a modern 198-home development.
The first phase of the work at Blackpool’s Queens Park estate will include the demolition of the first two tower blocks, Charles Court and Ashworth Court, and the creation of 92 new homes. The work is being carried out by regeneration specialists Lovell, with design by Condy Lofthouse Architects.
The second phase of the scheme will follow following completion of the first in March 2015.
Cllr Gillian Campbell, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for housing, donned a hard hat and steel toe cap boots to lay the first bricks, alongside Lovell regeneration manager Bruce Lister earlier this week
Cllr Campbell said: “I am extremely proud to have been able to lay the first brick at the new QueensPark.
“This heralds the beginning of a new era at QueensPark and I am looking forward to watching the development progress.”
Lovell regeneration manager Bruce Lister says: “Our team was delighted to welcome Cllr Campbell on to site to put the first brick into position.
“This is a key moment in the construction of the first properties for this new development of high-quality, contemporary, energy-efficient homes.
“We’ll be continuing to engage with the local community throughout the scheme, enabling young people to train as apprentices working on the project and creating job and training placements.”
