Student entrepreneurs face the lions for chance to scoop £10k prize
Entrepreneurial students from Newcastle University Business School will go head-to-head with their pitches at this week’s Lions’ Den event.
Cosmetic products and App businesses are among this year’s entries who will vie for a £10k business support prize.
Six finalists will face a panel of judges including National Youth Film Academy (NYFA) managing director Rob Earnshaw; Ground Six director Martin Stanley and Daniela Meyhoefer of North East branding company, Violet Bick.
The competition aims to showcase the wealth of entrepreneurial thinking across the University and offer the substantial support package to the most promising idea.
Organiser and student Celine Prinse said: “Last year two people secured jobs off the back of their pitch and many of the participants have built great contacts for their future careers.”
This year’s competition includes an App idea that allows students to share unwanted homeware when moving out of their homes, and a bus that can be chartered for nights out or lectures.
The event is being staged with support from the Benefactors’ Fund for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, the NU Marketing Society and the NU Alumni Association, and will also provide an opportunity for students to exhibit their ideas and network with attendees.
NU Lions’ Den will be held in The Venue at the Students’ Union (building 5 on the map) on the campus of the Newcastle University (Kings Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8QB) from 3p.m. – 6 p.m., Wednesday the March 26 2014.
