Newcastle designers’ idea to get regional creatives into collaboration
A pair of Newcastle-based designers have launched an idea they hope will encourage creative professionals to collaborate to win pitches and extend their work.
Mark Dawson and Mickey Devine, who recently set-up ‘Everything is my Design’, have developed ‘Just Another Collective’ - a network of North East creatives aimed at servicing businesses with creative or marketing needs.
The collective will include everyone from writers to filmmakers, journalists to graphic designers, artists to musicians and everything in between.
It is hoped the collective will help freelancers and small businesses to widen their client base and earning potential through cumulative resource.
Everything is my Design co-founder Mark Dawson spotted the need for such a platform over the last six months.
He said: “The current economic climate means that pitches are more competitively fought and there is a pressure on agencies to be able to deliver everything.
“Rather than being a jack of all trades and master of none, we wanted to tap into to the fantastic specialist skills we have in Newcastle and bring that all together under one umbrella.
“There is power and creativity in numbers, we’ve established Just Another Collective to explore new ways of working together to foster creativity and broaden skill sets.”
A forthcoming website will feature profiles of those involved in the collective, along with portolio samples.
While the collective will begin as digital presence, it is anticipated that physical events, including networking and lecture style sessions will take place in the near future.
Statex Colour Print sales & marketing development manager, Richard Barskby, whose firm are printing limited edition artwork on behalf of the group, added: “We’ve been based in Newcastle for twenty years now, growing from small beginnings and it’s exactly this kind of collaboration that sustains businesses through difficult times.
“It’s a ‘for the greater good’ attitude that will benefit not only local businesses and brands, but the creative landscape of the region as a whole.”
