Changing Lives charity tees up teams for golf day
Golfers from across the region are ’clubbing’ together for Changing Lives’ tenth annual fundraising Golf Day to be held at the City of Newcastle Golf Club on Monday 9th June.
Last year, the tournament raised a fantastic £6,000 for Changing Lives (formerly The Cyrenians) which helps thousands of vulnerable people and their families every month. This year, the charity is hoping to attract even more teams, sponsorship and fundraising in the hope that they smash their 2013 total.
Stephen Bell OBE, Chief Executive of Changing Lives and himself a keen golfer said:
“Our annual fundraising golf day is the chance for a great day of golf for the teams involved and most importantly, it helps us to raise awareness and funding for the charity. The money raised will help us to continue supporting people right across the North East region and beyond who have problems with homelessness, addiction, offending and mental health issues. Our aim is to help people to make positive, lasting changes in their lives, to help them get back in to society and live independently.
“As a registered charity, we need to raise over £3 million of our income each year through charitable giving. It is only through the kindness of our supporters however, that we can continue to make this difference and we are really grateful for their support. It would be great if even more teams could join in our Golf Day this year and know they are making a real difference to people’s lives.”
Teams of four cost £225 and teams can be all male/female or mixed. The ‘John Thompson classic tournament’ will include competitions throughout the day including nearest to the pin.
As well as refreshments and bacon sandwiches on arrival, after the tournament, golfers will be rewarded with a well earned hot lunch and a prize giving ceremony. There are also fantastic prizes to be won in the charity’s raffle.
