BCL Legal Sponsors Birmingham Trainee Solicitors’ Society Committee Election
Legal recruitment firm BCL Legal last night sponsored the election of the new Birmingham Trainee Solicitors Society’ (BTSS) Committee. The event took place at The Temple Street Social and brought together some of the West Midland’s most talented up and coming young legal talent. The event included the election itself and a drinks reception.
Each candidate who was up for election is currently undertaking a training contract with a Midlands based law firm. Paul Worsnip returns to the committee as chair having undertaken the role of treasurer in 2013/2014. The newly elected committee is as follow:
Chair - Paul Worsnop (Anthony Collins)
Company Secretary - Katie Willems (Higgs & Sons)
Treasurer - Jonathan Cave (DWF)
Sports Secretary - Alexandra Simon (Pinsent Masons)
Social Representative - Tania Bains (Weightmans)
Social Representative - Laura Sidaway (Weightmans)
Liaison Officer - Samantha Miller (SGH Martineau)
PR Representative - Alastair Dolman (Higgs & Sons)
CSR and Charities Representative - Rachel Pearson (SGH Martineau)
Education and Societies Representative - Honor Giles (Higgs & Sons)
The BTSS is an organisation made up of trainee solicitors, paralegals, newly qualified solicitors and post-graduate law students from across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Originally an off-shoot of the Birmingham Law Society, the BTSS has been operating for 173 years and remains as active as ever.
Each month it hosts a range of social, sporting, cultural and charitable events with the aim of bringing young lawyers together and raising their profiles across the city and beyond. It is keen to also promote corporate social responsibility so that members make a positive and lasting impact in the local community.
James Brewster, associate director at BCL Legal, said: “The event was a huge success and the new committee is made up of some rising stars in the region’s legal community, so I’m sure they will all bring fresh energy and make the next 12 months a great year for the BTSS and its work.“
