Gateley advises Cains Brewery on village redevelopment
The real estate team at Gateley – a top 50 national law firm – has advised on the proposed redevelopment for Cains Brewery Village in Liverpool.
Legal specialists from the firm’s Manchester office acted on behalf of the developer, Brewery Village Ltd, to successfully request and gain planning approval for the £150 million complex.
The proposed one million sq ft development includes plans to build a craft brewery, boutique hotel and cinema. In addition, outline permission has been granted for 36,300 sq ft of flexible commercial space, as well as a 41,900 sq ft supermarket and 725 homes.
Andrew Piatt – partner at Gateley and head of the Manchester real estate team – advised on the planning aspects of the proposal, prior to submission. Assisted by planning associate, Juliette Bradbury, he then progressed the plan to approval by Liverpool City Council.
Piatt said: “We’re delighted to have advised Brewery Village Ltd on this transaction and are pleased that the development has received planning approval. By leveraging our extensive experience in commercial real estate development, and knowledge of planning and local government law, we were able to successfully keep this project moving forward.
“After significant work and time invested in this deal, it is really satisfying to see a positive result. We look forward to continuing to build on our relationship with the property owners as work on the development commences.”
Work on Cains Brewery Village is to commence shortly, with the first phase of development expected to be completed by summer 2016. The scheme will attract roughly 2.5 million visitors to Liverpool annually and create 800 full-time jobs.
Sudarghara Dusanj, developer of Cains Brewery Village, said: “Gateley’s involvement has been essential to effectively preparing and progressing our proposal with the City Council. We’re committed to our vision of expanding the Cains’ beer brand and making this development a premier tourist destination and leisure asset for the city of Liverpool.”
