Miller secure position on £200 million Welsh school building framework

Miller Construction, which operates a Washington base, has been appointed to the £200 million framework that will deliver school building projects across North Wales.

Miller is one of seven firms appointed to the North Wales Schools and Public Buildings Contractor Framework which spans seven years.

The framework covers a number of projects which are committed to be delivered by Denbighshire County Council, Conwy County Borough Council, Flintshire County Council, Gwynedd County Council, Wrexham County Borough Council and the Isle of Anglesey County Council.

The 21st Century Schools Programme is a unique collaboration between the Welsh Government, the Welsh Local Government Association and local authorities with goal to deliver a generation of 21st century schools in Wales. In addition, the framework will also include a range of wider public building developments across North Wales.

Miller has been appointed to each of the lots allocated on the framework, which include: [Lot 1] projects from £4.35 million - £7.5 million, [Lot 2] projects from 7.5 million - £15 million and is one of only three contractors appointed to the high value Lot [Lot 3] to deliver projects exceeding £15 million.

The framework is a joint project funded by the Welsh Government’s Department for Education and Skills is led by Denbighshire and Flintshire County Councils on behalf of the six North Wales local authorities.

Dr Mohammed Mehmet, chief executive of Denbighshire County Council said: “This framework aims to maximise the benefits of the projects to the local community and sustain economic development.

“The main driver for this project is to obtain value for money from public procurement and deliver community benefits across the region. Considerations will include training and employment targets, prompt payments of sub -contractors, opportunities for supported businesses, education, work experience, community initiatives and open opportunities for small medium enterprises.”

This news continues a recent run on public sector success for Miller with the appointment to the North East Procurement Organisation Construction Framework announced only a month ago.

Miller Construction is currently delivering a new £44 million arts and innovation centre at Bangor University.
