1,172 jobs at risk as Yorkshire-wide care homes provider goes into administration

Mimosa Health Care Group Limited appointed administrators BDO LLP on 24 March 2014, putting at risk over 1,000 jobs in Yorkshire and the North.

Business restructuring partners, Kerry Bailey and Sarah Rayment, were appointed joint administrators.

13 out of the 22 care homes were in Yorkshire (Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and one each in York and Goole) whilst the rest are scattered throughout the Midlands and North East and West.

The Company, headquartered in Nottingham, is an operator of care homes for the elderly, including the disabled and those affected by dementia.

In total, Mimosa Homes provided approximately 1,000 residential and nursing care places and employed 1,172 employees, most of whom work within the homes.

This includes 22 staff employed between the head office in Nottingham and the accounts function in Newcastle.

The Joint Administrators will continue to trade the company via licensed agents with a view to effecting a sale as a going concern.

Kerry Bailey, BDO business restructuring partner said: “Regrettably, the difficult economic climate and reduced occupancy levels have significantly affected the Company.

“Our first and main priority as Joint Administrators is to ensure continuity of care and provision for all residents living in Mimosa homes.

“We are working hand in hand with professional care operators to ensure this remains the case and that residents experience minimal disruption and worry.

“We are hopeful of securing a sale of the business and the Company will continue to trade while all the options are explored.

“As such, all staff have been retained at this time, and our intention is to minimise any possible redundancies. We will also be liaising regularly with relevant stakeholders, including the Care Quality Commission, to ensure they are kept fully updated.
