Esh Group acquires two construction firms and rebrands

A North East based construction and property company has acquired two rival firms as part of an ambitious expansion drive.

Esh Group, a £200 million turnover company headquartered in Bowburn, County Durham, will rebrand the new subsidiary Esh Border Construction after completing deals for both Border Holdings Ltd and Border Construction Ltd.

The new subsidiary will continue to carry out work in Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.

Esh Group, which directly employs nearly 1,000 people, currently has offices in Durham, Cramlington, Leeds and Kendal and carries out construction work throughout the North of England.

Brian Manning, CEO of Esh Group, said: “Esh Group is a business builder and this joining together of Border Construction and Esh Group will lead to expansion and more.

“We are really pleased that we have managed to secure the Border business. We have built up a good business out of our Kendal office over the last four years and this acquisition gives us the opportunity to cement our position in both Cumbria and Scotland where Border has considerable turnover.”

Border Construction has 143 employees and has over the last few years delivered a number of construction projects across a wide range of sectors including education, health, public buildings, social housing and commercial build.

These include award winning projects such as Robert Burns National Birthplace Museum in Aye (£10 million), the extension and refurbishment of Trinity School, Carlisle (£18 million), Denton Holme Student Village, Carlisle (£10 million), Abbotsford House Visitor Centre, Melrose (£3.2 million) and five new Fire and Rescue stations throughout Cumbria (£13 million), as part of the North West Fire and Rescue PFI Project.

Peter Conway, managing director of Border Construction, was pleased that the deal with Esh Group had been concluded. He said: “This is a good fit for Border Construction and an opportunity to move the business forward. Esh Group has a very good reputation for business building and this deal will bring financial stability with it. “This deal is good news for the other operational areas of Esh Group in the North East and in Yorkshire where we continue to grow.”
