Sports bar reopens in Washington bringing 14 jobs
Up to 14 jobs have been created through the reopening of a popular Washington sports bar that has undergone a £450k refurbishment.
The former Chevys bar on Emerson road has now been transformed into an American-style sports venue called Champs Sports Bar and Grill.
Owner Lindsey Armstrong has kitted the bar out with 30 new televisions and introduced a menu of burgers, chicken wings and steaks.
The 36-year-old was funded by a £34k loan from NatWest via the Government’s Funding for Leisure programme.
She said: “I’ve been running Chevy’s for seven years. Before the works we were a sports-led pub that has entertainment at weekend which is great but the refurbishment has given us a better facility to show sport.
“We want the bar to be a place that people will come to relax and watch their favourite teams while enjoying some nice food in a good atmosphere.
“The support I have had from NatWest and my Relationship Manager Doug McKenzie has been very good. He was very helpful and took time to understand my business needs.”
Doug added: “Lindsey had an excellent business plan and a clear vision of what she wanted to accomplish. I wish her and Champs every success.”
