Downing welcomes Moose Coffee to new Liverpool location
Independent café Moose Coffee is set to open up its long-awaited fourth venue in Hope Street in Liverpool before the end of the year.
The popular café, which offers an American brunch-inspired menu, is set to open a new outlet in Downing’s Federation House building by November, following a refurb of the building.
Moose Coffee currently has outlets in Manchester, Crosby and in Liverpool’s business district on Dale Street. The café will be taking a 1,350 sq ft outlet in the building, complete with outside seating area.
The unit is currently being used by Downing Students as a spacious show flat for the company’s new student accommodation development, The Electra, which is being built on the site to the rear of Federation House and will be occupied by students in September.
Nick and Kathy van Breemen, who own Moose Coffee, said: “It’s an exciting time for Moose and we’re ecstatic to be gearing up to open our fourth venue.
“Hope Street is a great location steeped in history and culture and it’s rapidly becoming the foodie epicentre of Liverpool, with some of the most exciting restaurants in the city within a 500 metre radius.
“We are very pleased to be joining such illustrious company and we feel confident that there is a strong appetite for the Moose experience and that it will complement the existing offering in the area.
“Our new venue is going to be just as full of character and personality as our other three restaurants and we can’t wait to open our doors later this year.”
The Moose menu offers the kind of dishes you would typically expect to find in an American diner – eggs benedict, pancakes waffles and milkshakes. All dishes are freshly made on site, with a focus on using fresh, local produce.
Robin Ellis from Downing said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Moose Coffee to Federation House. Moose is a great business with an exciting future and it’s inspiring to see home-grown Liverpool businesses like this thriving and expanding.
“The deal we have now signed with Moose, means that as soon as we have finished using the unit as a show flat, in September at the latest, work will begin to create the new shop front and install the external seating area, which really will add something significant to the existing offer on Hope Street.
“Federation House is a building with a great deal of character just a stone’s throw from the Everyman Theatre and next door to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
“It’s perfectly placed to attract passing trade and the large ground floor unit which Moose is taking will provide the business with a spacious, airy base, which will no doubt be transformed by Nick and Kathy’s statement style. We wish the business the best of luck and we’re looking forward to tucking into a delicious brunch when the new venue opens!”
The first-floor of Federation House was, for a time, the Liverpool Design Centre and the building’s distinctive faux-Aztec cladding was designed by William Mitchell, who also designed the sculpted bell-tower and intricate main doors at the city’s RC Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King.
The upper five floors of Federation House house the Liverpool Media Academy, a leading media, music and performing arts college, which let the 17,500 sq ft space from Downing last year.
