BAM Nuttall getting down to work on Wirral roads

BAM Nuttall, the national construction company whose Northern office is located in Cheshire, has begun work under its new four-year contract with Wirral Council.

The contractor will be responsible for the maintenance of the borough’s roads, bridges, lights and paths.

The contract was awarded after a tendering process - one of the first in the country to be procured using the new national Highways Maintenance Efficiency Programme (HMEP) contract.

Cllr Harry Smith, Wirral Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “The introduction of this contract, working with our incoming partners BAM Nuttall, gives us an opportunity to renew our commitment to providing services which contribute to the growth in the borough’s economy, protect our highways and respond to residents’ concerns about their neighbourhood.

“I am also pleased that we have been able to add £500,000 to this year’s capital budget to carry out a further programme of maintenance schemes on residential streets.”

Matt Stacey, Head of Highway Services for BAM Nuttall, added: “We’re ready to go and everyone is looking forward to providing quality services for residents and businesses in Wirral.

“Most of our workforce and many of our managers live in Wirral, so we all want to do a good job. I am also delighted to announce that BAM Nuttall have been named as the only Civil Engineering Contractor in the top 100 in ‘The Sunday Times Best Companies To Work For in 2014’.”
