Cramlington in Bloom helps youngsters sow seeds of success

GREEN-FINGERED children in Cramlington are hoping to flourish in this year’s Britain in Bloom competition as they bring colour to their community.

Pupils from Beaconhill, Eastlea and Shanklea primary schools are putting their gardening skills to the test after teaming up with Manor Walks, Azure Garden Centre and Cramlington Town Council as they compete to create the best planted container as part of the annual Cramlington in Bloom.

To launch the challenge, youngsters from each school were given the opportunity to visit Azure Garden Centre to learn about the different variety of plants, their colours and their growing habits to help them create their planted designs.

Following the interactive session, which aimed to offer inspiration to help the children’s entries flourish, each school will work up their chosen designs before helping to plant them at Manor Walks Shopping & Leisure as part of the annual Cramlington in Bloom display.

Bruno Coppola, Manor Walks Shopping & Leisure’s general manager, said: “Manor Walks is centred in the heart of Cramlington and we are proud to be working alongside our local community to develop this year’s Cramlington in Bloom entry.

“The children involved with the project were very enthusiastic during their visit to Azure and we are looking forward to seeing their final designs take shape as they are planted at the centre later in the spring.

“This year’s Cramlington in Bloom entry is not only helping to create an environment which residents can be proud of now, but it is also teaching our future generations how they can make a real difference by taking pride in where they live.”

With over 100 retailers including Northumberland’s only multiplex cinema, a range of family restaurants as well as high street favourites, independent stores and 1,500 free parking spaces, Manor Walks Shopping & Leisure in Cramlington offers a huge amount of choice to suit a range of tastes.
