Jan boosts Harrison Drury's private client service
North West law firm Harrison Drury has recruited one of the UK’s leading private client lawyers to head up its wills and probate team.
The Preston-headquartered firm has appointed Jan Wright as a director responsible for wills, trusts, tax planning, inheritance and probate work, including disputed estates.
Jan, who joins Harrison Drury from Cartmell Shepherd, has almost 20 years of experience of private client matters, providing specialist advice for high-net-worth individuals. She has experience of all estate matters, including dealing with disputed estates, and a particular knowledge of the law as it affects elderly clients, including powers of attorney, mental capacity issues, Court of Protection matters and Statutory Wills.
Jan said: “Harrison Drury is a growing firm with a great reputation and I am very pleased to be able to help strengthen its private client offering in the region. I am looking forward immensely to developing strong links with the professional community in the region and offering assistance to their clients on these important legal matters.”
John Chesworth, managing director of Harrison Drury, said: “Being able to appoint a solicitor of Jan’s calibre and experience is a real coup for us. She is undoubtedly one of the UK’s leading experts in this area of law and that puts our clients in very safe hands.”
Jan is a founder member of Solicitors for the Elderly and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) UK Practice Committee. She serves on the President’s Working Group on non-contentious probate rules and is also a member of the Practical Law Company’s Private Client consultation board. She also serves on the HMRC Agents Advisors Group (AAG) for trusts and estates, focusing on inheritance and capital gains tax.
Jan qualified as a solicitor in 1995 after graduating with a BA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from St John’s College, Oxford. She practised with Westminster solicitors Radcliffes before joining Cartmell Shepherd in 2002, becoming an associate in 2004 and a partner in 2006.
