Gateshead builders target corporates with cycle and shower hub
A Team Valley-based modular construction firm is hoping to secure a slice of the corporate market with what is believed to be the UK’s first moveable shower and changing hub for commuter cyclists and runners.
Clearspace Buildings have developed the ‘Shower Hub’ - a small external building that fits into two car parking spaces - and can be installed and operational in less than a day.
Using modular construction methods, combined with off-site fabrication, the Shower Hubs can be installed in tight spaces, including underground or multi-storey car parks.
The first of the firm’s units is now installed at Watford Hospital where it has attracted grant funding from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund.
Scott Horner, managing director of Clearspace, said: “We’re very excited by the Shower Hub and the possibilities it presents. There are so many financial incentives and grant funding available to organisation’s that wish to encourage their employees to leave the car at home and cycle to work, that a Shower Hub could easily pay for itself.
“In many cases, the Shower Hub could represent minimal investment for organisations as it is may attract a Local Sustainable Transport Fund grant. Similarly, companies that offer the Cycle to Work Scheme can make significant National Insurance savings which can be used to enhance cycle facilities in the workplace.“
