Sustainable creative firm expands into Sunny Bank Mills
Scrap Creative, a social enterprise which recycles waste from businesses for art and recreation, has moved into Sunny Bank Mills, the Yorkshire mill complex between Leeds and Bradford.
Scrap, which has relocated from Kirkstall Road in Leeds, has taken 7,500 sq ft of training and warehouse space in The Spinning Mill in the heart of Sunny Bank Mills.
During the past three years Sunny Bank Mills, one of the most famous family-owned mills in Yorkshire where YTV’s Emmerdale and Heartbeat were filmed, has been transformed into a modern office and community complex for the 21st century.
Already this year six new companies, including Scrap, have moved to the Farsley mill, where more than 200 people are now employed.
Louise Lucas, director of Scrap, said: “This is an absolutely superb move for us. The space in The Spinning Mill is ideal and I absolutely fell in love with it when I first saw it.
Louise explained: “We are a social enterprise focused on helping the environment by re-using waste materials from businesses as resources for art and play.
“Our wonderful warehouse is open to everyone, full to the rafters of discarded materials, originally destined for landfill.”
William Gaunt, joint managing director of Edwin Woodhouse, the owners of Sunny Bank Mills, commented: “We are delighted to welcome such an enterprising and imaginative company like Scrap to our thriving community at Sunny Bank Mills. We are now seeing a steady flow of new tenants here, breathing brand-new life into an historic complex.
“All our new tenants are excellent examples of successful businesses being attracted to a quality business environment and their arrival underlines the versatility and flexibility of space at Sunny Bank Mills, which is attracting an exciting breadth of occupiers,” he added.
Mike Haigh of Leeds property consultancy Dove Haigh Phillips, who are marketing Sunny Bank Mills with Jones Lang Lasalle, added: “These recent deals further vindicate the capital expenditure and attention to detail the refurbishment of Sunny Bank Mills has created”.
Stuart Andrew, the Conservative MP for Pudsey commented: “I am very impressed to see such wonderful work being done to maintain and restore the heritage of Farsley.”
