Durham manufacturer hails CPI’s hand in accelerating their growth

The boss of a County Durham-based firm that is developing low-energy organic lighting products has hailed the region’s Centre for Process Innovation’s help in accelerating its growth.

PolyPhotonix, based in Sedgefield at CPI’s National Printable Electronics Centre, have used the Centre’s resources to make their product ideas into a profitable production model.

The firm supply organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) it is researching and developing to customers across diverse industries, from architecture to automotive, medical and creative sectors.

An OLED is made by placing a series of organic thin films between two conductors. When electrical current is applied, a bright light is emitted.

PolyPhotonix CEO Richard Kirk to focus on new product development and identifying market opportunities. Richard said: “Being able to make use of the Centre for Process Innovation’s (CPI) extensive facilities and equipment, as and when we need them, has allowed us to take innovative product ideas and turn them into profitable production.

“Although we operate as a private company, CPI’s support has enabled us to grow at an accelerated pace, faster than is usually possible for a start up.

“With help from the CPI, we have focused on new product development and launched our products into valuable new markets.

“We are supporting the Business is GREAT campaign to highlight our story to other SMEs looking to grow and show the support available to help them fulfil this ambition.”
