Matfen Hall moves into second stage of £450k investment
Upmarket North East hotel, Matfen Hall, has entered the second phase of a major £450k investment into its golf and spa facilities.
The ancestral home of the Blackett family, which is one of the region’s top leisure, conference and wedding destinations, is undergoing a major investment programme.
Owners Sir Hugh and Lady Blackett have invested in technology and equipment to boost their offering golfers and spa clients.
Around £150k has already been spent refurbishing the 53 bedroom hotel’s fitness suite. Open to members and residents, it includes Technogym equipment includingexcite cardio equipment featuring the UNITY console.
There are also six Kinesis stations offering a more functional training experience and an ARKE area which is designed to target the origins of movement.
A further £150k is to be invested introducing a brand new range of thermal experiences. This will include an aromatherapy room which provides gentle warmth and aroma; a steam room offering almost 100% humidity to cleanse and stimulate the body’s circulation; a traditional sauna; experience showers, which offer soft tropical rain or an ice cold bucket shower and an ice fountain.
Another 160k has been invested in upgrading the golf course maintenance equipment, including electric hybrid greens mowers, for use on the 27-hole course.
Managing director, Bernard Bloodworth said: “This is a very exciting time at Matfen with this investment creating a lot of interest not only regionally but nationally too.”
