TyneMet College students are National Football Champions

Preparation for Life and Work Students Win British Colleges Sport National Championship.

TyneMet College is celebrating with Preparation for Life and Work students who recently travelled to Bath to take part in the British Colleges Sport National Championship.

Their commitment and passion for the game shone through and they beat ten other regions to lift the trophy and be awarded the title of National Champions.

The eight students, Christopher Adams, 18, and Corey Haikney, 20, both from Blyth, Kurtis Barnett, 19, Ali Hassan, 19, Jordan McCarthy, 17, Mark Shaw, 19, all from Wallsend, and Ryan Thompson, 17 from Shiremoor and Daniel Westerby, 18, from Walker, are all studying on the Certificate in Employability and Personal Development course at TyneMet College, won every game, bar one, in the tournament, scoring 26 goals and conceding only 5.

Andrea Cochrane, Head of Preparation for Life and Work, TyneMet College, said:

“I am thrilled that the Team have achieved National recognition as British Colleges Sport National Champions. The Team showed commitment and dedication in all of the matches they played and demonstrated excellent team playing strategies whilst also displaying their individual talents.

“Their behaviour and attitude has been reported to me as exemplary whilst out and about, they are excellent ambassadors for TyneMet College. I wish them every success in their future whatever they intend to do.”
